Tire Installation & Rotation

Tire Installation & Rotation

As your car's point of contact with the road, tires suffer through more wear and tear than any other vehicle components. Over time, tires will wear down until they no longer have good traction and are vulnerable to popping.

If your tires are starting to seem worn out, it may be a good time to schedule tire rotation or replacement services at Blue Lake Auto & RV Repair.

Common Questions

How do I know if I need new tires?

There are a couple of things to look for when trying to determine if it’s time for tire replacement. The following indicate that a tire’s structural integrity and safety are now jeopardized:

  • Your tread depth is below 1/16 of an inch (1.6 millimeters). When the tire’s tread is overly worn, it won’t be able to properly grip the road and can jeopardize your control over the vehicle. To get a rough idea of your tread depth, use a penny and insert it “head down” into the tread. If you can see Lincoln’s entire head, you need a new tire.

  • Your tread wear indicator bar is visible. Tire manufacturers often include flat rubber bars that run perpendicular to the tread and serve as a warning that the tread is now overly worn. If you can see them, it’s time for new tires.

  • Your tire’s sidewall is showing visible cracks or cuts. Take this seriously: your tires may soon start to leak.

  • Your tires have developed bulges or blisters. Weak spots on tires show up around blisters or bulges and can blow out your tires.

If you see any of these signs, you need to have them checked and replaced. We offer several brand-name tires to choose from, and our trained technicians will install them properly.

Our professional tire experts have years of experience in matching the proper high-quality tires to your vehicle, enabling you to be confident in knowing that you have well-informed and capable experts on your side.

What to consider when choosing new tires?

Even though tires may all look similar, it’s critical to select ones that not only fit your specific vehicle but also your individual needs. There are a variety of different types of tires available, all of which are designed to perform in different conditions under different usages.

So, to help narrow down your options, you should consider the following:

  • The tire diameter for your vehicle: Your new tire(s) needs to fit the required tire diameter for your wheels, no matter what type of tire you go with. This info can be found either on the sidewall of your current tires or the vehicle information sticker on the inside of your driver’s side door

  • The types of roads you’ll mainly be driving on: City streets, long highways, gravel roads, and muddy trails all require different characteristics in tires

  • The weather conditions: You also want to consider the weather conditions you drive in most often and what the worst weather situations are that you may face. Your tires need to be able to safely perform in those conditions

  • Your normal driving style: Think about how you normally drive your vehicle. Do you enjoy a relaxed and smooth ride, or do you love high-performance driving that hugs a corner?

What is a tire rotation?

During a tire rotation, our technicians remove each wheel and tire assembly, moves them to different positions on the vehicle according to a specific pattern (like front-to-rear, X-pattern, or forward/rearward cross), and then reinstalling them at their new locations to ensure even wear.

The technician will also typically inspect the tires for wear, damage, and proper inflation pressure and may perform a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) reset if the vehicle is equipped with one.

How often should I get a tire rotation?

You should rotate your tires every 5,000 to 7,500 miles or at the interval specified in your vehicle's owner's manual, whichever comes first. This ensures even wear, extends tire life, and helps maintain even tread depth across all four tires.

Check your owner's manual for the precise mileage and for specific rotation patterns for your vehicle.

Signs I need a tire rotation?

Pay attention to these things:

Uneven tread wear

  • There may be wear on one side of the tire.
  • There may be an irregular wear pattern on one of the tires.

Vibration when driving

  • This might be caused by tires that are unbalanced.
  • A tire alignment may be required.
  • It may be an indication that the tires need to be rotated.

Loss of tire pressure

  • Uneven tread wear may be severe.
